New service: Private Mastodon hosting
It seems like a long time ago that Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter, and we all lost our collective minds. Many regular users of Twitter felt that it was time to leave, and find alternative services. Without going into all the interesting things that have happened at Twitter since then, I am one of those who moved on, and as part of that change, we’ve gone ahead and set up our new Mastodon hosting service.
There are pages and pages of articles, commentaries and opinions about the future of Twitter, the nature of Mastodon, and why one is better than the other. If you’ve been persuaded to give Mastodon a try, you can create an account on any of the thousands of public instances out there (Ask a friend which server they use, or pick one from https://joinmastodon.org/servers ). But have you considered running your own instance?
When you control your own instance, you have the opportunity to create a new community. Make it the official home of your business, your school, your sports team or church or newspaper. The future of Mastodon lies with small community instances, serving an existing group of people, whether they’re colleagues, team-mates, or friends. Monoceros Digital Consulting has recently launched a service to provide exactly that.
Our Mastodon hosting service provides a small, affordable server, with Mastodon preinstalled. You set the rules and run the community, we keep the lights on and ensure that the service stays reliably available. We take care of backups, updates, security, and all the other technical details, so that you can focus on building your community, your brand, and your online presence.
